HootSuite 2.0 Launch – Social Media Fail?

Twitter Homepage – Love it, or leave it?

A few moments ago, the team at Twitter (under the direction of Doug Bowman) unleashed the new Twitter homepage:

It’s pretty interesting (and very telling of potential future plans) that they are able to segment their trending topics into time-based buckets. This only makes apparent the computing power of the Twitter API. The prominence of search has us thinking that Twitter is going in a new direction. It’s not just about conversations and connections anymore. We dare say: Twitter Search vs. Google Search? Round 1 of the battle has begun. The question is, who will be the real winner, and how will the battle be fought?

If you were the Creative Director at Twitter, in what direction would you have steered the design the home page? What would you have kept, and/or what you would you have added (or removed) to improve the user experience?

Social Media – What’s In It For You?

All too often, I hear organizations express their interest in establishing a presence on Facebook, Twitter, or any of the other social networking sites du jour. While I admire that they realize the value in social networks, I have to question their motives in being involved. Many organizations are now making the move to Facebook and Twitter, and for obvious reasons. With 175 million+ users on Facebook and approximately 4 million on Twitter, the benefits are huge.

State of the Twitter-sphere

The Twitter-sphere is quite literally exploding. Since it’s launch in July of 2006, the user community has grown to an estimated 3.5-4.5 million users. It has been used to provide citizen journalism during the Mumbai attacks, the recent presidential election in the US, as well as more localized events such as MacWorld and CES.
