Growing tiny speakers into big ones

After the StayFresh event at the Centre for Social Innovation wrapped up last week, Cameron and Max from Big Bang Technology lingered to help me and Justin clean up (i.e. finish the beer).

Cameron and Max commented that they could tell who had a lot of experience presenting to an audience, and who didn’t. “A good audience,” Cameron said, “should boo a bad speaker off the stage.”

Max shook his head. “This isn’t TED or An Event Apart. But all those big speakers, they have to start somewhere. They start out tiny, and grow big.

“The people who spoke tonight,” he said, “are the people who will go on to speak at TED and An Event Apart, and Refresh should be nurturing them.”

Max hit the nail right on the head; one of our objectives is to nurture you. So we have two Ignite presentation spots left for the StayFresh meetup on April 20. This is an opportunity for you to hone your presentation skills in front of a (mostly) forgiving audience of peers and industry folk. (And if you couldn’t get a ticket before it sold out, this is one way you can attend.)

If you’re interested in speaking, email [email protected] with the details of your proposed presentation. The subject matter is up to you: talk about a product or an app you worked on, or anything you’re passionate about. No matter what level of experience you have, we want you to step up. You can do it. We know you can, because one day you’re going to be big.
