An Interview with David Kaneda

Earlier this week, we had a chance to speak with David Kaneda, developer of the recently released jQTouch, a jQuery plugin for mobile web development on the iPhone, Android, Palm Pre, and other forward-thinking devices.

Refresh Events: Hi David, thanks for sitting down with us. Tell us a bit more about jQTouch; what does it do and who’s it for.

David Kaneda: Hi Justin, thanks for having me. jQTouch is a jQuery plugin for mobile web development. Ultimately it aims to work on all modern WebKit devices, like Android, Palm Pre (and hopefully soon Blackberry), but is currently optimized for iPhone. It allows web developers to create modern mobile apps which feel native, with animations, integrated Ajax, and history management.

10 jQuery Plugins Every Developer Can’t Live Without

jQuery is one of the most popular JavaScript frameworks in use today; since it’s release over 3 years ago, it has grown from a small following of die-hards to one that is being used by the likes of Google, NASA and Bank of America.

The strength of jQuery lies not within its popularity (although one could say that it is as successful as it because of the sheer number of advocates it has), but because of its extensibility and the number of plugins that are available to designers and developers. (This site uses jQuery plugins to drive the Flickr and Twitter feeds, as well the lightbox.)

Stay Fresh – The jQuery Edition

Welcome to our first edition of Stay Fresh. Every day we will be posting content about a design or development topic. Sometimes, it will be about social media, creative strategy, or a product review. Either way, count on us to deliver something new and interesting everyday.

With that said, our first edition of Stay Fresh will cover jQuery. The latest version of this popular JavaScript framework is 1.3, which was just released on January 14th 2009. (Incidentally, the new version was released 3 years to the day of the first version of jQuery). The new version of jQuery has many new improvements, which we will cover today.
